B-3 District Track Meet

The standards were very high for this years class B-3 track meet. There were a number of tough athletes. When the day was over 18 Seward athletes qualified for the State Track Meet. Senior Keri Volnek won the pole vault at a height of 12, 9' 8". Sophomore Alyssa Kamphaus placed second in the discus and first in the shot put. Junior Lisa Kozisek placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.50. Sophomore Natasha Mueller placed in many events. She placed in the 800, the 1600, the 4x400, and the 4x800. Senior Anna Meyer is off to state in the 1600, the 3200, and the 4x8. Freshman Kelsey Christensen placed in the 1600, the 3200, and the 4x800. The girls 4x1 relay team placed first with a time of 50.70. Team members included Zoie Smetter, Lisa Kozisek, Kinzi Roth, and Liz Damman. The 4x4 placed second with a time of 4:10.30. Team members included Lisa Kozisek, Kinzi Roth, Elizabeth Damman, and Natasha Mueller. The last relay team to make it for the girls was the 3200 relay. Team members included Elizabeth Damman, Natasha Mueller, Kelsey Christensen, and Anna Meyer. The placed first with a time of 9:43.10. The girls team did amazing. At the end of the day they were district champs and were very proud of how well they did. Not only the girls who were off to state did well, but everyone who participated in the district meet either improved their time or were very close.
For the guys team nine boys were also headed off to state. Nicolas Bogenreif won the pole vault with a height of 12, 14' 4". Ryan Haskin and Taylolr Majerus both placed in the boys discus. Ryan placed second with a throw of 145' 4" and Taylor placed third with a throw of 140' 4". In the 200 meter dash Junior Blaze Novak placed third with a time of 22.70. In the 800 meter run sophomore Grant Vlasin took third place with a time of 2:04.70. In the 110 high hurdles Jake Suhr placed fourth with a time of 16.00. Each relay team was very close to qualifying for state, but the only team to actually make it was the 4x800 relay. Team members included Jacob Imig, Grant Vlasin, Daniel Buss, Tyler Hackbart with a time of 8:25.10. The guys finished the meet placing fourth. Even though it wasn't first, they were pleased with the ending results.
A number of athletes qualified for state and everyone who was in the meet did very well. This was an exciting day for the coaches to see what everyone could actually do. The weather wasn't bad and neither were the times. Good luck to the state qualifiers and congratulations to everyone who participated.

Conference
Central 10 Conference Championship Aurora

The Central 10 Conference was held in Aurora this year on May 3, 2008. The Jays comepeted very well at this meet. As a team they competed the best that they have all season. Seward placed 3rd out of the 10 teams with a total of 330 strokes. First place was York with 318 strokes and following them was Grand Island Northwest with 325 strokes. Sophomore Titus Tvrdy played a very good round of golf on Saturday. He shot an 83 and placed 11th at Aurora. He was very pleased with his performance and looks forward to districts. Second place on Seward Varsity was Josh Luff with 86 strokes. He was also pleased with his performance. Following Josh was Court Croghan and Bryan Rodenbaugh with 87 strokes, and Jared Hans with 96 strokes.
Seward boys varsity will be comepeting at districts in Hastings at Southern Hills on Monday, May 12, 2008. Each golfer will bring their A game and will be ready to compete.

Central Conference

On the first Saturday of May the Seward Track traveled to Fairbury for the Conference meet. The Girls track team won the whole meet and they are ready for districts the next week.
In the 100 meter dash, Kinzi Roth got sixth. Lisa Kozisek got third and Kinzi Roth got fifth in the 200 meter dash. Natasha Mueller got first and Liz Damman got second in the open 800 meter run. Seward JV Meet

This meet is an opportunity for the younger track athletes to compete in many events. It gives them a chance to place and medal and helps them gain confidence. The Seward JV meet was hosted on Monday April 28th.
Sophomore Shelby Yelden had a very rewarding day. She received second place in the pole vault with a height of 8'0 and second in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 52.3. Sophomore Amanda Hemsath also ran very well in the 1600 meter race placing seventh with a time of 6:34.3. Freshman Keasha Zadina also placed sixth in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 19.5. Sophomore Sienna Cipriano placed seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14 seconds flat. The girls all did execptionally well, which will help them for meets with more teams in the future.
For the boys team freshman Austin Haskin started the day off well placing fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 35'11.5. Then sophomore Blake Vajgrt placed first in the pole vault with a height of 10'0. Sophomore Steven Perkins also had a great day placing in both of his hurdle races. In the 300 int hurdles he placed fourth with a time of 47.6 and in the 110 high hurdles he placed second with a time of 17.7. Sophomore Andrew Soreson placed eighth in the 12:41.8. Both the guys and girls teams did well and will continue to help at other meets for points.

Seward Varsity boys placed eighth out of eleven teams with 354 strokes on Monday, April 28, 2008. Titus Tvrdy was had the lowest score of 84. Following him was Bryan Rodenbaugh with an 85, Court Croghan 89, Josh Luff 96, and Jared Hans with 101 strokes.

Seward varsity boys placed sixth out of eight at the Crete Invite on Friday, April 25, 2008. Bryan Rodenbaugh and Josh Luff had the low scores for Seward with 89 strokes. Following them were Titus Tvrdy and Court Croghan with 93 strokes and Jared Hans with 101 strokes.

Soccer Season Coming to an End

The Seward Soccer seasons are coming to an e
nd as they participate in districts this coming week. The boy's team had a much improved season and ended their regular season with a record of 4-8. On Monday they competed against Norris for the first round of districts. They won 1-0 and are now playing Pius X on Wednesday, April 30th at 6 p.m. in Crete at Doane College.
The girl's soccer team has played very competitively throughout the season as well. Although their record may not show it, they have improved a lot throughout the season and have blended very well together. They played their first round of districts at the York Cornerstone Complex on Monday. They played against York and lost 5-0. The girl's final record was 1-12. The Lady Jay's were lead by their two seniors, Hailey Behlen and Dani Svoboda. Next year they will return a lot of experience from their younger players but the seniors will be missed!

Seward Track Team has a Long Week

On Tuesday April, 22, the Seward Track team headed to Beatrice for a challenging meet. Both teams worked really hard in each event.
Lisa Kozisek got sixth in the 100 meter dash, Liz Damman got second in the 400 meter dash, Natasha Mueller got fifth and Lauren Kongsjord got sixth in the 800 meter run, Anna Meyer got first and Kelsey Christiansen got third in the 1600 meter run, Shelby Yeldon got sixth in the 100 meter high hurdles, Grace Smetter got seventh and Emily Cady got eighth in the 300 meter low hurdles, the 4 by 100 relay team got first. the 4 by 400 relay got second and the 4 by 800 relay team got first. Three days later they traveled to Crete for the Crete Invitational.

Aurora Invite

The Aurora Invite was Saturday, April 19, 2008. It was a beautiful day for golfing. The Seward Varsity team included Titus Tvrdy, Court Croghan, Jared Hans, Bryan Rodenbaugh, and Josh Luff. There were six teams competing at the invite. Seward placed 5th out of 6 teams. Leading the invite was Aurora with a score of 327. Following Aurora was York with 338, Grand Island Central Catholic with 339, Grand Island Northwest with 350, Seward with 357, and Fairbury with 383. Titus Tvrdy placed 8th overall with a score of 43 on the front 9 and 41 on the back nine, totaling to a score of 84. Following Titus for the Varsity team was Court Croghan and Jared Hans with 89 strokes, Bryan Rodenbaugh with 95 strokes, and Josh Luff with 95 strokes.

Improving at Every Meet

The Yowell Track Classic was on Saturday, April 19th. The meet began at 10:00 am, starting with the field events. Senior Nick Bogenreif started the day off in long jump. His jump was incredible with a length of 20'0.25, placing third. For the girl's shot put, Sophomore Tatum Peery placed fifth with a throw of 34'2.5. Sophomore Dana Johnson was not to far behi
nd her with a throw of 24'1. For the girls 400 meter race, sophomore Jordan Seaman ran great with a time of 65.2 placing ninth. In the boys 4x800 meter race, Grant Vlasin, Jacob Imig, Daniel Buss, and Tyler Hackbart each kicked it up a notch and ran amazing with a first place finish and a time of 8.33.8. The girls 4x100 had their best time. Relay members are Lisa Kosizek, Kinzi Roth, Zoie Smetter, and Liz Damman. They placed second with a time of 51.6. Missing from the meet was Freshman Emily Cady, sophomore Alyssa Kamphaus, and sophomore Natasha Mueller.
All in all the track meet went very well for both boys and girls teams. Every person competed hard and is improving within every track meet. Each meet a new person or team has a new personal record for a time. The next meet is scheduled for Tuesday April 22 at Beatrice.
